The word, "GENESIS", infers God's creation story for the past, present and future. GENESIS also speaks of newness, the willingness to evolve and to see change, and the opportunity of new beginnings. Interacting these reflections with what Evangel exemplifies, we have sieved out these values that shape our decisions and actions. So, here they are:
G: Generosity
The story of creation is the story of generosity. The generosity of creating everything despite the certainty of rebellion. Creation was the act of risking everything for the sake of loving humankind.
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth"
(Genesis 1:1)
E: Excellence
God's creation was excellently good and whole. Sadly, we equate excellence with perfection. However, excellence is this sense of order, wholeness and goodness of revealing the big picture after putting puzzles of different shapes and sizes at their places where they belong.
"God saw all that he had made, and it was very good…"
(Genesis 1:31)
N: Nurture
Participation in nurturing has been humankind's responsibility since the beginnings. A responsibility entrusted by the divine. Nurturing is the partnership of divine sustenance and human stewardship and involves caring for humankind and the environment.
"The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it" (Genesis 2:15)
E: Equality
Differentiation does not qualify discrimination. To be different from another does not mean that one is better or lesser. Because we are created in the image of God, this becomes the bridge of equality regardless of ethnicity, gender or status.
"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them" (Genesis 1:27)
S: Scriptural
The Bible is not God but contains the inspired word of God. In the story of creation, Jesus was there with God and was God's creative word that empowered God's creative works. Jesus is God. We align ourselves with the Scripture because it is divinely inspired and is pivoted by Jesus Christ.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1)
I: Integrity
While humankind fell at the opportunity to sin, God took the opportunity to save. With the mission of salvific intervention for the world, God not only foretold it, God fulfilled it. God's integrity. Despite our rebellion, God preserved the integrity of loving humankind.
"And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel" (Genesis 3:15)
S: Spirit-led
The Spirit of God was actively involved in the creation of the world and is ready today to be an active participant in our lives. However, this requires our willingness to be Spirit-led.
"Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters" (Genesis 1:2)
